Omar Amanat
About Page
Omar Amanat is a member of the Gold Philanthropists Circle, using his financial and entrepreneurial expertise to generate greater understanding of international relations and technological innovation. As a pioneer of stock market technology, Mr. Amanat was named one of Wall Street’s “Top Ten Most Influential Technologists” by Fortune Magazine. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Business before teaming up with the founder of CyberTrader, Philip Berber, to develop a trading platform prototype that would quickly sell to Charles Schwab for $488 million
.
Among his most noteworthy achievements is Mr. Amanat’s innovative electronic brokerage company, Tradescape. Tradescape was the first in the industry to offer investors direct connectivity with all nine Electronic Communications Networks and alternative stock exchange markets. It was deemed one of the top 50 privately owned companies in America until Mr. Amanat sold it to E*Trade for $280 million, all before the age of 29.
However, Omar Amanat’s interests go far beyond stock exchanges. As a Muslim living in a post-9/11 world, he has become committed to exploring the role of media images in creating a truly global community. He was the premier financier for Bridges TV, the first American network focused on generating empathy and understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim cultures. This led to further opportunities in the entertainment field, and Mr. Amanat has since founded or financed several film production/distribution companies, one of which has plans to release over twenty films in the next five years. He is also a board member of a new $1 billion Hollywood production company.
As a member of the Gold Philanthropists Circle, Mr. Amanat devotes much of his time to humanitarian and community causes. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Board for the Acumen Fund, an international relief fund for the poor that has generated high praise as a revolutionary force in global philanthropy. He is involved with the Rubin Museum of Art in NYC, as well as a term member for the Council on Foreign Relations. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Human Rights Watch and Malaria No More.
Omar Amanat’s significant contributions span across many diverse avenues, from technological trading to culturally progressive television, and even global humanitarian aid.
